We have JV and Varsity conference meets this week. Monday will be the JV conference meet held at Theodore Wirth and then Wednesday will be the varsity conference meet at Elm Creek, baring a significant snow event of more than a couple of inches. Some additional information is listed below.

Monday - Leave Andover at 2:00 dismissal at 1:45 for entire team.

Senior Pictures & Posters for the Banquet

Seniors,

I need you to pick out one or two pictures for your 8x10 and poster that will be given to you at the banquet. If you select two pictures, please differentiate between the 8x10 and poster.  I need to have your picture selection by 2/14 or you will not receive it at the banquet.  If you are using any of  the pictures from the BLOG, I need to have the folder and picture number.  To accomplish this select the picture and then select options and photo details.  You will see the following:  I need the Date and the File Name:  1/12/13 IMG_7542.JPG.  If you use your own picture for the poster, the file size will have to be full size or it will not work due to expanding the picture to poster size.

Feed My Starving Children Night

There is a volunteer opportunity at Feed My Starving Children in Coon Rapids on Saturday Feb 9th at 7PM - 9PM.  There is room for 25 students and 5 parent volunteers.  Please contact Brenda Schmitz at schmi020@umn.edu to sign up.

Wednesday Meet Information

5 km Skate Pursuit

This meet will have a different look to it. The start will be a pursuit start with the fastest girl skier from last week starting, at one minute on the clock, and everyone else going out at the interval time they are behind plus one minute.  For the boys it will be time behind plus 25 minutes.
3:30- Girls- pursuit start
Maddie Mckeefery (Andover) 15:52 fastest time (she goes at 1:00)
Skiers with in 6:00 of her time (21:52) will go in pursuit order (Around 80 skiers)

3:55 Boys pursuit start
Nate Webster (Elk River) 13:37 (he goes at 25:00)
Skiers with in 5:00 of his time  (18:37) will go in pursuit order (Around 90 skiers)
 
4:15- Rest of girls- 20 sec intervals.

4:25- Rest of boys- 20 sec intervals

Week of January 20th

Here's what we think we know for this week.

Tuesday - Practice at Andover HS, no bus. Middle school skiers will need to car pool over and be ready to go for a run and wax skis. JV skiers will run as well and prep skis for the meet. Varsity skiers will be doing an alternate workout.
Wednesday -Skate race at Elm Creek, leaving Andover at 2:00 PM with early dismissal at 1:45.
Thursday - Evening practice at Theodore Wirth, leaving the high school at 4:30.
Friday - Practice at Theodore Wirth, leaving the high school at 3:00 and picking up the middle school skiers at 3:15.

Thursday, January 17th - Meet @ Elm Creek

All ten conference schools will be skiing in the meet. This means it will be crowded, keep your head up and plan ahead. We will be leaving the school at 2:00 PM, this means dismissal at 1:45. The race schedule is below. Everyone will be skiing two laps on the artificial snow loop which will include the bypass section.

Week of January 14th

The rain from last week has made things a little more challenging. Currently our practice and meet schedules are difficult to nail down. Here is what is know for the up coming days.

Tuesday - Groups will most likely head out to Elm on their own to ski. There is a scheduled meet so they will have to car pool out leaving around 4:30.
Wednesdy - TBD
Thursday - Meet at Elm Creek, classic 5 km with the start time being 3:30.
Friday - Practice at Theodore Wirth, the bus will leave at 3:00 from Andover and proceed to the middle school.
Saturday - Meet ABC Relays at Theodore Wirth, the new start time is 1:00 PM with the bus leaving at 10:30 AM.

The course for the Classic morning races will be the lower Gold and Cedar trails (same as 2011), the Free technique race in the afternoon will be on the Silver 5K.

Meet @ Elm Creek 1/8/13

Schedule of events:
Varsity partner 2 x 2.5 km relay
3:30 Boys mass start – 25 skiers – each team will have room for two skiers on the front line with slower skiers seeded behind.
3:32 Girls mass start – 25 skiers – should give maximum time spread between genders for the first couple hand-offs at least

JV 5km interval start race (Start from relay chute – two loops of the man-made using the wall)
4:10 (40 minutes on the clock) - Boys
5 minutes after the last boy - Girls

Thursday Meet Information

We will be leaving Andover at 2:00 PM which means early dismissal at 1:45.

Teams---Armstrong, Anoka, Blaine, Coon Rapids, Osseo

Time Schedule--One skier per school every 20 seconds
   3:30  Boys Varsity   (7.5 km Classic only)  No more then 15 Skiers
   3:40  Girl Varsity     (7.5 km Classic only)  No more then 15 Skiers
   3:50  JV Boys   (5.0 km Classic)
   3:55  JV Girls    (5.0 km Classic)

Course-
Varsity Boys / Girls 7.5 km Classic -- Man made loop, Northern lights, Man made loop to finish = 7.5 km
JV Boys / Girls 5.0 km -- Man made loop, Northern Lights to finish = 5.0 km
 Note: Tracks on the Northern lights loop are thin,  the man made loop tracks are great.

December 27th - 29th

We will be holding practices the next few days at various parks. Most days we will ski both classic and skate. The plan is to meet at the high school and leave by 8:00 AM each morning.

Thursday - This will be the only day that we have a bus for practice. We will go to Baker Park, the site of our conference meet, and ski the morning - classic, and then head out for lunch. Lunch will be provided by the booster club. After lunch we will return to Baker and do some skate skiing. We should be back at the school around 4:00 PM.

Friday - We will car pool out to Theodore Wirth for the morning ski. We will break for lunch and then return to Wirth for the afternoon ski.

Saturday - The location is yet to be determined. The days format will be the same as Thursday and Friday.

Bob Foster created a link that allows you to setup an account to have an email or text sent whenever the Andover Nordic Blog is updated.  Here are the directions for setting up your account and activating the feed.

IFTTT.com  (IF This, Then That) can be set up to send you a text or email when there are updates to the Andover Nordic Ski blog.  I have created two IFTTT recipes and made them available for general use.

To use these notifications you must first go to IFTTT.com and set up an account.  Once an account is set up then you can put the notifications to use.

Meeting Minutes Booster Club Meeting

Nordic Ski Booster Meeting

Wednesday December 19, 2012

Attendees:  Jeff McKeefry, Sarah Anderson, Brenda Schmitz, Scott Clark

Purchasing:

Discussed the financial state the booster group is in and what we could purchase.  Our Treasurer (Rick Dubay) was out of the country, so the detailed financials will be discussed in January.  

• Items of interest Coach Clark is working on are:

1. Five sets of ski’s from Hoigaards.
2.  More poles
3. Wax from Pioneer Midwest
4. Wax benches from Pioneer Midwest or a collapsable table
5. Generator to potentially be shared with Cross Country and purchase split between both booster groups.  Jeff will search a few places as will Sarah Anderson to see if we can find one at a reasonable price.

Fundraising:

Need to follow up with Cub in Blaine and County Market after the New Year to see if we can get our group booked for a session on Super Bowl Sunday.  Jeff will follow up with the fund raising group to see if someone can do this.

Looking for an addt’l fund raising option for next season and discuss at a future meeting what to do during the Andover Family Fun Fest.

Heggies Pizza Fund raiser was a success.  We will plan on doing this fund raiser again next year.

Practices over Winter Break:

Coaches will hold practices on December 27^th through December 29^th.  The 27^th and 28^th will be off site practices scheduled for all day.  One held at Baker and one held at Wirth.  The booster club will sponsor lunches each day for up to $10/person since the group will be done all day.

Pasta Feed:

Next Pasta Feed will be held the night before the section meet on Tuesday February 5^th, 2013.  The kids will be waxing that night and can eat before or after they wax.

There will be a sign up sheet posted on the blog prior to the pasta feed.  We will ask that food be brought to the AHS cafeteria by 530pm that evening.

Satruday Meet - Trollhaugen

We leave rather early for the Holiday Relays at Trollhaugen, 6:45 AM. The two boys and girls relay teams are required to go and if others would like a chance to come to the meet to cheer them on and ski, that would be great.
