Monday's Meet

Here is the schedule for the JV conference meet on Monday:

Thursday (2/6):
No practice
Friday (2/7):
Practice at Bunker. JV skiers will have time to wax for JV conference after practice. We will also be voting on end of the year awards and captains for next season.

Monday (2/10):
JV conference meet @ Elm Creek. We are planning to have classic first with the start at either 3:30 or 4:00. I will post the start time as soon as I know for sure which it is.
Tuesday (2/11):
Ski with your dog day! We will meet at the skijor site at 3:30, those who have a dog they would like to ski with are encouraged to bring them. Parents are welcome too. State meet competitors will need to leave their race skis in the ski room so coach Clark or myself can get started on waxing. When you are done with your ski come back to the school and finish waxing.
Wednesday (2/12):
Leave for the state meet, and Charlie Banks Relay at Giants Ridge. We will be taking one boys and one girls team to the relay. The teams will consist of the top four skiers not skiing in the state meet. The first race will start at 1:00 pm.

 If you are one of these skiers and cannot afford to miss 2 days of school, please talk to the coaches and we will try to work something out.
Thursday (2/13):
State Meet. The boys varsity team along with Maddie and Alexis will be skiing.

Boys’ 5K Freestyle            10:00 a.m.

Girls’ 5K Freestyle             11:00 a.m.

(The interval time for the freestyle race is 15 seconds per skier)

Boys’ 5K Classical              1:30 p.m.

Girls’ 5K Classical               2:30 p.m.

*Equipment turn-in: We have not set an equipment turn-in date. This could take place on Friday (2/14) or the Wednesday after the banquet. Watch for a post on this and remember EVERYONE needs to be at equipment turn-in.

Today's JC Conference Meet Canceled!!

There will be NO JV conference meet today (1/30). The meet will be moved to Feb 10th at Elm Creek.

Another JV Conference Change!!

The race at Green haven has been canceled, so we will be racing at Baker. Hopefully this is the last of the changes.

JV Conference Change

The location of our JV conference meet has changed again. We will now be racing at Greenhaven golf course. The first race will start at 3:45 and the order will remain the same.

Saturday:
We will have practice at 9:00 AM. Meet at the skijor site. Practice will be last around an hour and 15 minutes. We will also be waxing for the conference meet.
Monday:
The JV conference meet has been moved to Thursday!! No JV meet on Monday! We will practice if the schools are open.
Tuesday: 
Another practice day. We will be waxing for the conference meet after practice.
Wednesday:
Conference meet at Wirth. The bus will leave the school at 7:30 AM. The boys skate race will begin at 10 AM temperatures permitting.

Practice and meet information (1/20-1/25)

Monday 1/20: We will be having practice at Wirth. The bus will leave the high school at 3:00

Tuesday 1/21: We will have the first of our two meets this week at Woodland Trails. This is a Skate meet with the first skiers starting at 3:30. There is no chalet at this location, however the bus will remain on site. We expect cold temperatures so plan accordingly.

Thursday 1/23: This is the second of our meets. It is a Classic meet and the second half of this week's pursuit competition, meaning that the start order is determined by the skier's skate race finish. The skate race winner will begin their race when the clock starts, if, for example, a skier finished 10 seconds behind the winner, they would start at 10 seconds on the clock. The first skier to cross the finish line wins.

Saturday 1/24: We will be holding a mandatory practice this Saturday at the Skijor site. I would prefer to start practice at 9 AM, but I am willing to be flexible. We will be doing some speed work which will help the athletes perform at their best during our conference and section races.

Thursday's Meet 1/16

This is a 5K Classic race
We will be doing one loop with the bypass and the Northern Lights.

Schedule:
- 20 sec. interval start for all racers
3:30 Boys - (Top 10 to 15)
3:50 Girls - (Top 10 to 15)
Boys JV about 10 Min. after the last Girl Top 10/15 leave
Girls JV 5 Min. after JV Boys

* The athletes will be told today if they are racing in the top 10 to 15

Big Changes to Thursday's Meet!

First, the meet is now a skate meet not classic.

Second, the start order is different:

3:30 Girls relay mass start (self seed your own team in the chute)
4:00 Boys relay mass start
4:02 5 km boys interval start
5 minutes after last boy – 5 km girls interval start

Relay skiers will ski the valley loop three times each. 5 K racers will ski the northern lights loop. The Bus will leave the high school at 2:00.

Tuesday's Meet (1/7)

Tuesday's meet will be classic at Elm Creek.
The top 10 boys and the top 10 girls will be placed in teams of two for sprint relays. The top 10 will be based on the results of our classic meets and the pairs will be set by the coaches. Those not competing in the relays will do a 5 K classic race.

3:30 boys relay mass start (top ten boys in teams of 2)

3:31 girls relay mass start (top ten girls in teams of 2)

4:10 interval start for boys 5k (rest of boys) (2 laps of the 2.5k course)

5 minutes after the last boy goes the girls will start 5k (2 laps of the 2.5k course)

The team will provide lunch the day of the race and athletes will be responsible for dinner and lunch on the return trip.

Meet Canceled

Today's Meet at Woodland Trails has been canceled due to low temperatures. We will still hold practice today with the bus leaving the school at 1:40.

Booster club meeting dates

The Andover Nordic booster club has setup meetings for the next couple months. These will be at Andover High School at 7:00 p.m. in room A-105 or A-107.  The January meeting is on Tuesday 1/14/14 and the February meeting is on Tuesday 2/11/14.  The tentative date for the year end banquet is 2/25/14.

Thursday's Meet

Here is the information on Thursday's meet at Woodland Trails in Elk River:

3:30 - boys 7.4 km classic

3:45 - girls 7.4 km classic

4:00 - boys 5.0 km

4:15 - girls 5.0 km

 

Boys 7.4 K skiers:

The bus will leave the high school at 1:40. The high temperature is expected to be around 1 above so dress warmly. One layer under your race uniform is not enough!

Christmas Break Practices

Tuesday 12/24: We will not be holding an official team practice. Captains will organize an activity for the skiers who are in town.

Thursday 12/26: Once again no team practice. Skiers should get out for two hours of skate or classic skiing.

Friday 12/27: We will have a team practice. The bus will leave the high school at 8:15 and we will be going to French Lake Park. We will ski for a little over 2 hours and return to the school.

Saturday 12/28: This is the first of our two-a-day practices. We will leave for Wirth at 8:00 AM and ski for 2 hours, take an hour or two for a lunch break on site then have another skiing session.

Monday 12/30: Another two-a-day at Wirth. We will be leaving the school at 8 AM.

Change in Practice Time for Monday (12/23)

On Monday the bus will leave for Wirth at 9:00 AM. We will ski there for about two hours then come home.

Practices Thursday - Monday (12/19 - 12/ 23)

Thursday: We are tentatively scheduled for a skate practice at Bunker, however if the snow there is not good enough to ski on we may relocate to Wirth. I will let the kids know more at the end of practice.
Frioday: We will be busing to Theodore Wirth after school. The bus will pick up the high school kids then the middle schoolers. We will be skate skiing.
Saturday/Sunday: one of these days needs to be a long ski, the other will be intervals. More detail will be provided on Thursday.
Monday: We will be busing to Wirth again. I'm planning on a normal practice time, but this may change due to skier's availability.

Cub food bagging update

Thanks to the 17 athletes that came out today for cub food bagging.   The team raised $885 which was a very close race between the morning and afternoon sessions. The morning session made $435  and the afternoon session made $450.  Thanks to Mike Cofrin for organizing and putting in a pair of glasses for a drawing which was won by Katie Fourniea. Special thanks to Laura Fourniea and Kelly McKeefry for their time spent helping at the event.

Monday (12/16) & Tuesday (12/17)

Monday: We will be classic skiing at Rum River Central. For those on the field trip to the middle school the bus will pick you up there. It is your responsibility to get your skis to practice.
We will be waxing after practice with first priority going to experienced skiers.

Tuesday: Age group classic at Elm Creek (5K) boys will start at 3:30, girls at 3:50, and first year skiers at 4:15. As with most ski meets these times are not set in stone. I will let you all know it things change.
