Winter Trip Pictures - Fixed

I tried to take a lot of pictures from the winter trip up at ABR.  Everyone had a great time up there and the snow was plentiful.  If you didn't make it this year, mark it on your calendar for 09'!

Here's a link to my online photoalbum: ABR 08'.

Feel free to download and save any you like.  Practice schedule for this coming week will be up soon.

Tuesday Practice

The captains should have called around and informed everyone that practice is at 3pm at Woodland Trails in Elk River.  There will be a carpool starting at the school so no one gets lost.  We will be skating and be sure to dress warm!

The race at Elm Creek that is usually held on Wed. nights has been moved to Tues. night.  This means that we will not be doing it.  Instead there will most likely be some intervals or a time trial Wed. morning.

Weekend & Racing

Just a quick update for what to do this weekend.  I was going to post this Fri night, but got back too late.

Saturday: Everyone should have at least gotten out and skied a bit.  Also 1,2,3,4,4,3,2,1 intervals.

Sunday:  Easy ski for 1-1.5hrs.

Next week plan on racing wed night at Elm Creek if possible.  I strongly encourage everyone to get out to this race.  I think it's about $5 to race.  Everyone needs to get some more racing in.  High intensity workouts is something that needs happen 1-2 times a week.  A citizen race is a great way to get some speed in.

Waxing News

Just a quick update on waxing.  Experienced skiers should be waxing their skis as much as possible.  Use different temperature waxes when putting in layers.  This will keep your skis from oxidizing (turning white) and keep them fast.  Please let the coaches know a day ahead of time if you plan on waxing at the school after practice.

Beginning skiers, we will be having a waxing clinic soon and showing you how to correctly wax your skis.  Right now, it is more important that you ski, ski, ski.  The more time you can put on the snow, the quicker you will pick up the technique & balance, which will help you become a fast skier.

Also, I (Coach Dubay) am now a Technical Representative for Swix.  Swix is the leader in ski waxing technology throughout the world.  I will be writing wax reports for High School ski races throughout the midwest.  If you have any questions regarding waxing, feel free to ask me.  http://www.swixracing.us/nordic/techteam.php

Welcome!

This blog for the Andover Nordic Ski Team will be used to help relay information to skiers, parents, and anyone else looking for information about the Andover Nordic Ski team.  This idea came up last night at the Andover Nordic Ski Team Boosters Club meeting.

First off, since we had our first meet last night, congratulations to everyone who has now got their first cross country ski race done.  The team did very well overall and results should be available soon.

This weekend, it is encouraged for experienced skiers to race on saturday at Theodore Wirth Park.  There is a 10k skate citizen race there and the entry fee for High School students is $15.  This would be a great way to get a longer race in and after racing a longer distance, the normal 5k race will seem short.  Here's the link http://www.skinnyski.com/racing/forms/2008/preseasonphysical.pdf

Also, for parents that did not recieve the handout earlier this year for skiing websites, here are the links to the pages.

Skinnyski.com

Race results, trail reports, pictures, classifieds, you name it.  This has become the go-to website for skiing in the Midwest.

Teamtoday.org

Valuable website featuring how the US Ski Team is doing and how they are training.  A very motivational website with excellent pictures from races around the world.
